4:00 on abc 7. >> opening statements set to begin today in the misconduct trial of anne arundel county executive john leopold. prosecutors say that he used members of his police detail to compile files on potential rivals and have security on hand while he had sex with a county employee inside a vehicle. they waived his right to a jury trial, which means the judge will determine whether he's guilty or innocent. he denies any wrongdoing. but the former d.c. police officer has been convicted of killing his mistress and their daughter. richmond phillips is guilty of first-degree murder and other charges in the 2011 death of wynetta wright and 1-year-old jaylin wright. he killed her and then dumped her body in hillcrest heights park. the child was found dead inside a hot car. the woman's family was pleased with the verdict. >> all the lies and deceit, the killing and everything that he did, today's the day it ended.

>> prosecutors say phillips killed the two to hide the affair. he faces up to life in prison without parole and is scheduled to be sentenced on march 22. >> some shocking allegations by d.c. councilman marion barry. he spoke with u.s. news about his arrest in 1994 crack cocaine possession in a sting operation. he said he believes the fbi tried to murder him by supplying his ex-girlfriend moore with boys and rather than crack cocaine. she was cooperating with the fbi's and was getting drugs from an undercover police officer. the fbi agent to oversaw this thing called the claims observed. >> hotels are looking to make you more comfortable if you are battling the flu. >> and what investors are watching today. linda bell is at bloomberg headquarters in new york. good morning. >> happy friday. we are waiting on corporate results from companies like ge and morgan stanley. they both will report results in

a few hours. stock-index futures are little changed ahead of that. flu is being across the country. the costs of developing a sweeping vaccine may be at least $1 billion according to the university of minnesota. with such a hefty price tag, it is a tough sell for product that brings in little profit the company that makes them. some hotels have been changing their routines to be more accommodating to those who are sick. some hotels are even preparing packages for the guests while others are stocking up on hand sanitizer and boxes of tissues. some hotels are even offering humidifiers and drugstore runs. the housing market is in recovery mode. that means the value of the white house is rising as well.

>> maryland governor martin o'malley said to outline his proposals for curbing gun violence in the wake of the connecticut school shooting. he will unveil his plan during a news conference in annapolis this morning. he is expected to call for an assault weapons ban, tougher licensing requirements, and a limit on the size of ammunition magazines. it also says its plan will address mental health as well as school safety. >> investigators need your help to find a man suspected of attacking and robbing an elderly woman in silver spring. take a look at the picture on your screen. police say the man seen in this surveillance photographs

approach to the woman as she left the safeway grocery store on out glen drive, a threat to the ground, and stole cash. and he ran away. the woman suffered minor injuries. investigators are searching for the people behind another bizarre robbery in gaithersburg. two men walked into a restaurant on south frederick avenue pan sprayed the manager and customer with a fire extinguisher. the robbers took the cash register and ran off. investigators have not said if it's connected to a two symbol robberies in gaithersburg last weekend. >> and details on the order dame football star monte day oh, claims he was duped to fall in love with a woman who never existed. >> a star of a hip mtv show called catfish is being investigated now. >> it is a bizarre hoax that is getting more and more complicated.

35 at dulles, 34 hagerstown, 37 in quantico. we will have sunshine finally the first appearance of the week. it will be breezy and cold, high between 35 and 40 degrees. we will be warming up quickly this weekend into the upper 40's with sunshine. if you clouds on sunday and then a big blast of arctic air. you will feel this on monday. maybe a snow showers on monday and and temperatures in the low 30's on tuesday and wednesday. that's the latest on a forecast. let's see how traffic is moving on this friday morning with jamee. >> the beltway is moving just fine from maryland and virginia, no problems on 95 khyber, b-w parkway checking out fine as well as 270. northbound 28 coming out of manassas park into centreville overnight crash on or about 28 before new braddock road.
